1962 Route

Pool Meadow to Wyken

From Pool Meadow via Ford Street, Lower Ford Street, Far Gosford Street, Walsgrave Road, Longfellow Road, Hipswell Highway and Belgrave Road to the terminus at Clifford Bridge Road.  Probable terminus details from road layout:

  • "All passengers alight here" at the end of Belgrave Road;
  • Bus turned right into Clifford Bridge Road and swung into dedicated bay at the start of Belgrave Road for layover and pick-up.

The service returned to Pool Meadow from Lower Ford Street via Cox Street and White Street.

Bramble Street, Swan Lane, Harefield Road, Coleridge Road, Longfellow Road junction with Hipswell Highway and Hocking Road. 

History of the Route

August 1953

Service 4 introduced as a new service between Pool Meadow and Wyken via Ford Street, Lower Ford Street, Far Gosford Street, Walsgrave Road, Longfellow Road, Hipswell Highway and Belgrave Road Terminating at Hocking Road.

May 1962

Service extended along Belgrave Road to newly constructed terminus at Clifford Bridge Road.

History of the Service Number

1926

Probably ran from Stoke Heath (Wyken Way) to the Council House or Greyfriars Green as a short-working version of Service 1.  Later ran as a Service Extra between Stoke Heath and Spon End.

1937

Spon End running abandoned and replaced by running to Barkers' Butts Lane, via Earl Street, High Street, Smithford Street, Fleet Street, and Coundon Road.

January 1938

Stoke Heath terminus extended to Valley road

May 1939

Diverted away from Stoke Heath via Avon Street and Torcross Avenue to Sewall Highway, presumably turning at the Devonshire Arms.

November 1941

Service discontinued and replaced by Service 5 from Coundon and an extension of Service 7 to Sewall Highway.
