Frequency to and from the Alexandra Cinema

Monday to Thursday: every 6 minutes
Friday: every 6 minutes
Peak Period: every 4½ minutes
Evenings: every 10 minutes
Saturday: every 5 minutes
Sunday: every 7½ minutes (reduced service before 10.00 am)

1962 Route

Alexandra Cinema to Hen Lane/Holbrooks

From the Alexandra via Cox Street, Swanswell Street, Howard Street, Springfield Road, Eagle street, Foleshill Road, Lockhurst Lane, Holbrook Lane then:

(a) Via Hen Lane to the terminus at Lauderdale Avenue.  Probable terminus details from road layout:

  • "All passengers alight here" just before the junction of Hen Lane with Lauderdale Avenue;
  • Bus turned right into Lauderdale Avenue, reversed back into Hen Lane and then pulled forward for layover and pick-up in Hen Lane opposite terminus.

(b) Via Roland Avenue to the terminus at Holbrooks shops.  Probable terminus details from road layout:

  • "All passengers alight here" outside Roland Avenue post office;
  • Bus turned right into Parkville Highway, reversed and then turned right back into Roland Avenue for layover and pick-up opposite the post office.

Service returned from Springfield road to Swanswell Street via Harnall Lane West and Stoney Stanton Road.

Alexandra to Stoke Aldermoor

From the Alexandra via Cox Street, Whitefriars Street, London Road, Acacia Avenue, Humber Avenue, Terry Road, Humber Road, Bolingbroke Road, Aldermoor Lane, The Moorfields, The Barley Lea and Acorn Street to Whitworth Avenue.  Probable terminus details from road layout:

  • "All passengers alight here" at the end of Acorn Street;
  • Bus turned right into Whitworth Avenue, then reversed and turned right back into Acorn Street for layover and pick-up.

Pre-1961

Stoke Green, Humber Avenue junction with Terry Road, Gaumont, Five Ways, Lockhurst Lane (Courtaulds), Burnaby Road and Lythalls Lane.

1962

The Farmstead junction with The Moorfields, Roundhouse Road, Bull's Head Lane, Terry Road junction with Humber Road, Humber Avenue junction with Terry Road, London Road junction with Gulson Road, Alexandra Cinema, Swanswell Street junction with Howard Street, Eagle Street junction with Foleshill Road, Lockhurst Lane (Courtaulds) , Northey Road, Dunlop Works, Lythalls Lane and Hen Lane Corner.

History of the Route

Pre-1926

Introduced in 1921 between London Road and Foleshill Road and Extended to Holbrook Lane Post Office in 1923.

1926

Already in existence from London Road to Holbrook Lane Post Office via Whitefriars Street, Cox Street, Swanswell Street, Howard Street, Springfield Road, Eagle street, Foleshill Road and Lockhurst Lane.

October 1928

Extended beyond Holbrook Lane Post Office to Hen Lane Corner.

September 1929

Extended from London Road to the Humber Road junction with Bolingbroke Road, via Acacia Avenue, Humber Avenue, Terry Road and Humber Road.

December 1930

Extended along Bolingbroke Road to Stoke Green.

September 1935

Further extended along Aldermoor Lane to terminate at Round House Road.

Late 1936

Extended beyond Hen Lane Corner:

  1. Along Hen Lane and then via Briscoe Road to the Masser Road junction with Dymond Road;
  2. Along Roland Avenue to Holbrooks shops.

June 1946

Peak Services extended along The Moorfields to Stoke Aldermoor Community Centre.

October 1947

All sevices extended to Stoke Aldermoor Community Centre.  Hen Lane Services diverted away from Masser Road, along Hen Lane to Lauderdale Avenue.

June 1957

Stoke Aldermoor Service extended via The Barley Lea and Acorn Street to Whitworth Avenue.

March 1958

A trial service from Hen Lane to Keresley Hospital was introduced but withdrawn after ten months because of a lack of passengers.

June 1961

City Centre point for Service 3 moved from the Gaumont to the Alexandra Cinema, coinciding with the new Fare Stage structure.
