Frequency to and from Baginton (17)

Monday to Thursday: every 20 minutes
Friday: every 20 Minutes

1962 Route

Service 17 Broadgate to Baginton

From Broadgate via Hertford Street, Warwick Road, Leamington Road, Baginton Road, Fenside Avenue, Stonebridge Highway, Howes Lane, Mill Lane and Coventry Road to the terminus at the Baginton Oak.  Probable terminus details from road layout:

  • "All passengers alight here" just before the entrance to Baginton Civic Airport;
  • Bus turned in airport entrance, then pulled forward to wooden bus shelter by Baginton Oak (tree) for layover and pick-up.

Service 17A Broadgate to Finham

From Broadgate via High Street, Earl Street, Much Park Street, Ring Road, Quinton Road, Daventry Road and Leamington Road, terminating in Erithway Road.  Probable terminus details from road layout:

  • "All passengers alight here" just after the start of Erithway Road Road;
  • Bus pulled forward and reversed into Daleway Road, then turned right into Erithway Road for layover and pick-up.

Service returned to High Street from Quinton Road via Little Park Street. ;

Post-1962 Extensions

In 1965 Service 17 was curtailed to Fenside because of the difficulty in crossing the A45 and service 17A was extended to Baginton instead.

Railway Bridge, The Grove, Armorial Road, junction of Baginton Road with Leamington Road, Baginton Road (adjacent to No 150), Fenside Avenue shops, Baginton Mill and Holly Walk.

Service introduced July 1958, location of Fare Stages unknown.

1962

Maryrs' Memorial, Joan Ward Street, Ulvescroft Road, Stivichall Croft and Thirsk Road.

History of the Route

April 1936

Route acquired from S A Smith running from Pool Meadow to the Baginton Oak, via Hales Street, The Burges/Cross Cheaping, Broadgate, Hertford Street, Warwick Road, Leamington Road, Baginton Road, Howes Lane, Mill Hill and Coventry Road.

April 1937

Temporary shuttle service between Pool Meadow and Cheylesmore established diverting from the main route at Daventry Road, presumably terminating at Quinton Parade. ;

September 1937

Presumably diverted via Trinity Street instead of Hales Street and The Burges/Cross Cheaping.

November 1937

Temporary shuttle service to Cheylesmore withdrawn and replaced by the extension to Service 10.

November 1939

Service 17 withdrawn and replaced by southern extension of Service 10.

March 1940

Service 17 to Baginton reinstated, but terminating at the City end in Broadgate.

July 1958

Service 17A introduced between Broadgate and Finham via High Street, Little Park Street, Quinton Road, Daventry Road and Leamington Road, turning in Erithway Road. ; The service did not run on Sundays.

December 1959

Service 17 diverted between Baginton Road and Howes Lane via Fenside Avenue and Leaf Lane to allow crossing of the upgraded Stonebridge Highway.
