Works Services to Remploy (GTC)

Remploy specialised in employing disabled people to work in normal manufacturing processes.  It occupied the site on the corner of Wolfe Road and Torrington Avenue, which it shared with the Government Training Centre (GTC) and the Industrial Rehabilitation Unit (IRU).  All three had similar formats with the work, rehabilitation or training overseen by skilled instructors or supervisors.  Throughout the country, Remploy sites manufactured a wide range of goods.  Coventry Remploy assembled dashboards for the automotive industry.  Later, the GTC and the IRU were respectively renamed Coventry Skillcentre and Coventry Employment Rehabilitation Centre (ERC).
